Recently, the Northeast Division of the 2026 National University Mechanical Engineering Innovation Competition — Failure Analysis Competition concluded at Shenyang University of Technology. The event was hosted by the Liaoning Society of Mechanical Engineering, organized by Shenyang University of Technology, and co-organized by NEU. Teams from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, NEU won 9 First Prizes, 4 Second Prizes, and 7 Third Prizes. NEU ranked first among all participating universities in the Northeast Division in terms of the number of First Prizes. A total of 11 teams advanced to the national final.

According to the organizers, the Failure Analysis Competition was officially incorporated into the National University Mechanical Engineering Innovation Competition system in 2025. With the theme of "boosting new quality productive forces and improving product quality and reliability", the competition this year attracted more than 500 teachers and student representatives from 15 universities in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning Provinces. After intense competition, 29 first prizes, 58 second prizes, and 91 third prizes were awarded.
